Saurabh Narain is president and CEO of National Community Investment Fund, an impact investor and community development financial institution that has a mission of increasing the flow of capital into underserved communities nationally. He is a banking executive with almost 40 years of global experience building highly profitable businesses, both in the for-profit and nonprofit environments. NCIF’s theory of change focuses on building economic opportunity in rural, small town, and urban America by investing in and working with local mission-oriented financial institutions that include minority and CDFI banks. Under Saurabh’s leadership, NCIF has increased its assets under management to more than $270 million, has created over 17,000 jobs, and is a major investor in CDFI and minority banks. It seeks to generate impact using its three lines of businesses: equity investing, deployment of New Markets Tax Credits, and lending. NCIF is also piloting an AI-based advanced data analytics platform to catalyze flow of capital to underserved communities. Saurabh is a member of the Board of Expanding Black Business Credit Consortium, U.S. Social Investment Forum, Investors Council of the Global Impact Investing Network, Wells Fargo community development advisory boards, Allivate Impact Capital, Center for Impact Finance at University of New Hampshire, and Community Development Venture Capital Alliance; he is also a distinguished mentor at the University of Chicago Leadership in Society Initiative. He is a past board member of the CDFI Coalition, the Federal Reserve Board’s Consumer Advisory Council, and the advisory board of Ripple. Prior to NCIF, Saurabh had extensive experience in capital markets and risk management working at Bank of America for almost 17 years, based in Asia and the U.S. He is a graduate of the ABA Graduate Stonier School of Banking and holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
